Marmoucha Beni Ouarain
An exceptional 1970s vintage Moroccan rug from Marmoucha, the neighbouring region to Beni Ouarain. Sharing the same refined aesthetic as Beni Ouarain pieces, Marmoucha rugs are renowned for their minimalist yet expressive tribal motifs, traditionally woven in natural dark wool on a natural wool background.
This outstanding example features a meticulously handwoven diamond pattern across the entire surface, with each diamond containing its own individual motif. Two rows stand out with unique designs in every diamond, showcasing the weaver’s skill and creativity. Rich in Berber symbology, this rug conveys themes of protection, fertility, and spirituality, making it a truly prized and high-quality collector’s piece from our buyer’s private collection.
Elegant in its abstraction yet detailed in execution, Marmoucha rugs were admired by famous modernist architects of the 1920s and 1930s, including Le Corbusier and Alvar Aalto, for their purity of form and timeless aesthetic. Like Beni Ouarain rugs, Marmoucha pieces are considered among Morocco’s most prestigious, handwoven from the finest wool, and are wonderfully sumptuous and heavy underfoot.
